A stellar line-up for the Group One Juddmonte International could be on the cards, worthy of its £1 million prize fund and regular position as the best race in the world.

Boasting some 37 Group One titles already, the 34 entrants include Mishriff who could become the fourth horse to defend the crown (Dahlia, Halling, Ezzoud being the others) on Wednesday 17 August.

Another already proven over course and the distance (1m2f) is Desert Crown, with the world’s top-rated thoroughbred, Baaeed, opening up the prospect of the Epsom Derby Winner taking on the five-time Group One winner over shorter distances. The latter’s trainer, William Haggas, considers the Knavesmire showpiece as “the obvious route” for his stable star.

Godolphin-owned three-year-olds Coroebus and Native Trail, winners of the 2,000 Guineas and Irish 2,000 Guineas respectively, also hold entries, as does the Jean-Claude Rouget-trained Prix du Jockey Club star, Vadeni.

Leading three-year-old fillies Tuesday, Nashwa and Inspiral are the reigning champions of the English Oaks, the French Oaks, and the Coronation Stakes, respectively.

Indeed, Tuesday feels a likely favourite amongst the 32 fillies and mares entered for Thursday’s showpiece the Group One Darley Yorkshire Oaks. Her opposition for a race run over the longer trip of 1m4f, could include Emily Upjohn the impressive winner of the Tattersalls Musidora at York and the five-year-old, Alpinista, who looks to extend a three-race winning sequence at the highest level.

On Friday 19 August, the sprinters take centre stage and once again US trainer Wesley Ward is set to bid for another British Group One prize with both Golden Pal and Arrest Me Red for the 5f sprint. The locally trained defending champion, Winter Power, could face some familiar faces as all three placed horses from 2021 could yet return- Emaraaty Ana, Dragon Symbol and the French filly Suesa.

Persian Force, Maylandsea and locally owned Dramatised head up a strong two-year-old challenge, with eleven potential contenders to eclipse Kingsgate Native as the last juvenile to win the Nunthorpe, now worth £500,000.
