The 40-1 outsider Alpha Delphini trained by Bryan Smart and ridden by Graham Lee has won a dramatic Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes, the feature Group 1 on day 3 of the Ebor Festival at York.

In a finish so tight it took the Judge five minutes to decide, the seven year old beat Mabbs Cross by a Nose, with Blue Point third.

Lee, who already has a Grand National win on his cv, gave Mike Vince his reaction.

Connections of top stayer Stradivarius stand to scoop a one million pound bonus if he wins the Weatherbys Hamilton Lonsdale Cup, one of the feature races on Day 3 of the Ebor Festival at York on friday.

The bonus was put up for any horse that could win four of the top long distance races culminating in this race, and Stradivarius is on the brink after winning the Yorkshire Cup, Gold Cup at Ascot and Goodwood Cup.

Charles Hamilton, the Chief Executive of Weatherbys Hamilton put up the bonus, and has been speaking with Mike Vince ahead of the big day.

Mark Johnston on Record

Mark Johnston has become the most successful trainer by winners in British Racing history at York this afternoon.

Poet's Society's win, under jockey Frankie Dettori in the Clipper Logistics Handicap was the 4194th of Johnston's career, beating the record held by Richard Hannon.

Johnston had been waiting for several days after equalling the record at the weekend and he's been speaking with Mike Vince

Michael Shinners on Draw

The favourite Stratum has been handed Stall 4 in the barrier draw for saturday's £500,000 Skybet Ebor.

He safely got into the race as number 19 and will be one of four Irish challengers for Europe's richest handicap.
