Twelve amateur jockeys will take part in the 2025 Macmillan Ride of their Lives on Saturday 14 June 2025 at York Racecourse. The charity race is one of the highlights of Macmillan Charity Raceday, the single biggest fundraising event for the charity which has raised over £10m since it’s inception.
The riders are keen to get their fundraising up and running, with each rider set to raise at least £4,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support as they embark on a period of intense training over the next six months.
With six Yorkshire representatives, there may be some familiar names to those local to the course. With Catherine Burdett, 44 in the city and Lizzie Anderson, 20, Tabitha Bentley, 29, Alex Kay, 49, Amelia McArthur, 33, Anya Potter Firth, 19 and Miles Seston, 41 from the surrounding Yorkshire area.
Lizzie Anderson, 20 from Ripon says, “I am already underway with my fundraising, and have lots of ideas on how to raise money for Macmillan. I ride out regularly at Mark Walford’s so I’m hoping I won’t find the training too hard!”
Tabitha Bentley, 29 from Harrogate is looking forward to the raceday, “After spending many years spectating at York, I can’t wait for June to come to ride down the Knavesmire and support Macmillan.”
