Planning to Join Us for the Sky Bet Sunday Series ft York Mix Family Fun Day?
Here are a few things to consider before planning your journey for both days of racing:
A1 – Darrington & Wentbridge
Ongoing works (now in their third year) to repair the Wentbridge viaduct and Went Edge Road bridge.Expected to be complete December 2025.
Barrier Upgrades between Parlington (M1 Garforth) and Grange Moor (A1M Boston Spa)
Lane closures on north and southbound approaches - delays expected. Allow extra time for journeys. The scheme is expected to last until May 2026.
A64 York Bypass
There are roadworks on the A64 between the junction of the A19 (Designer Outlet) and the A1079 (Murton.)Average speed cameras (40mph) and lane closures are in place. Please allow extra time for your journey. Work expected to continue until November 2025.
A59 Near Poppleton
Resurfacing work is currently taking place on the A59 approach to the junction with the York Ring Road. These are due to be in place until 0600 on September 14th.You are advised to check with City of York Council. https://www.york.gov.uk/roadworks-2
Women’s Rugby World Cup
A fixture will take place at the LNER Community Stadium in York, on September 7th (Japan v Spain 12:00 kick off.) This game is expected to cause some additional traffic in the area near the stadium. Shuttle buses are operating from York Station to the stadium – please note that the racecourse shuttle buses are clearly signed and will continue to operate.
York Gateway Project
Weekend and overnight closures of roads (None planned in the immediate future but please check the Council website.) Temporary traffic lights in operation at various times. The scope of the works changes frequently so monitor information from City of York Council. We have liaised closely with them, and they have planned the most disruptive work to avoid racedays, but you should allow extra time for your journey. The York Racecourse Shuttle Buses are operating as normal. York Station long stay car park is now permanently closed to allow for the construction of a multi storey car park. The scheme is expected to be complete in late 2025.
Rail Travel
On September 7th there will be disruption on some racedays to Northern Trains between York and Leeds. Buses will replace trains on the route via Garforth. It will however be possible to get trains from Leeds to York (and return) via Harrogate or via Castleford. Whilst rail travel will be still possible it is likely to result in some reduced capacity and extended journey times for rail travellers.
Huddersfield Station is currently closed until September 28th for refurbishment. During this period there will be no train services through Huddersfield station. The railway will also be closed between Berry Brow/Stalybridge and Heaton Lodge Junction (near Mirfield), affecting train services to and from Manchester, Leeds, Sheffield, and York.
Other routes, including the West Coast Main Line and Cross Country are not affected by this work.
Members of the RMT & ASLEF have recently voted to take industrial action affecting Cross Country Services; however, this is not expected to commence until September 21st.
Please check the National Rail Enquiries website before commencing your journey.
